In March 2009 I met
another classic Doctor Who star at The Television & Movie Store.
This time I met Peter Purves, who played Steven Taylor alongside The
First Doctor, William Hartnell. Peter is also fondly remembered by
many for his 10 year stint presenting Blue Peter. In his time
hosting the classic children's programme Peter worked with several
hosts including John Noakes and Valerie Singleton.
Peter was at the
shop to promote his newly released autobiography entitled Here One's
I Wrote Earlier. The title of the book is, of course, a witty
reference to Peter's time on Blue Peter and is the show's best known
catchphrase.
Having arriving at
the store in good time, I then had to queue for 30 minutes in order
to meet Peter. Once at the front of the queue I had an entertaining
chat with the star. During the chat Peter Purves signed my Doctor
Who: The Legend hardback, my Lost In Time DVD along with his own
book. Peter was interested to hear what I had to say. The
actor commented to me that Stephen was the same as the character he
played in the science fiction show, although the role he played was
spelt his Doctor Who role was spelt slightly differently to my own
name. The television presenter was also eager to hear how far I had
travelled to see him for the book signing.
