In January 2008, I returned to The Television & Movie
Store in Norwich to meet another classic Doctor Who star. This time I
met Nicholas Courtney, otherwise known as Brigadier Alistair Gordon
Lethbridge-Stewart, leader of UNIT, during the 1970s and 1980s.
There was a long queue to see Nicholas, who arrived
at the store at about 10.30am. I was happy to say that I was near the
front of the queue, so it was not a long wait till I got to chat to the
star. I chatted to Nicholas about his time on Doctor Who and the
different Doctors he had worked with. Nicholas also went on to say that
he had been to Norwich before to film Downtime, an unofficial spin-off
video, at the UEA, which he enjoyed.
My Doctor Who: The Legend book was signed, as was he
latest autobiography Still Getting Away With It. I had a good chat
with several people in the queue who commented on my rare copy of
Nicholas' first book, Five Rounds Rapid!, which he wrote in the 1980s.
Nicholas said to me he was very surprised to see a copy of the book, he
then signed it for me as he knew I had been a fan of the show for many
years.
Nicholas will be returning to television in a guest
role in The Sarah Jane Adventures as
the Brigadier, who has now been promoted to a Sir.
