These were originally the mutated remains of the Kaled race, and created by Davros, their chief scientist.

In new Who, the Daleks have, so far, featured in the finales of Series One, Two and Four.

The Daleks were created by writer Terry Nation, who was also responsible for Blake's 7 and Survivors.
